Triple Success at EuroTier 2026: VetVise Revolutionizes AI-Powered Livestock Farming

When the animal controls the tech: How AI-based behavioral analysis feeds direct control commands into the barn computer, driving measurable improvements in animal welfare.

Hannover, September 22nd, 2026 – Artificial intelligence in the barn shouldn't just generate more data—it needs to make daily work noticeably easier and measurably enhance animal welfare. It is precisely for this consistently practical approach that VetVise GmbH has been honored with multiple awards at EuroTier 2026: The AI assistant BarnBuddy receives the DLG Innovation Award in Silver. Meanwhile, the smart farrowing pen developed in collaboration with WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp was awarded both the DLG Innovation Award in Gold and the prestigious Animal Welfare Award.

These awards highlight the two evolutionary stages of VetVise technology: While the BarnBuddy makes animal behavior visible around the clock and supports humans in decision-making, the solution co-developed with WEDA links these insights directly to feeding and housing systems for the very first time.

"We don't just want to show what is happening in the barn. The key is understanding what a change in behavior means and what action must follow. That is the exact moment AI turns into a real, practical tool for the farmer."

— Jannick Schröder, CEO & Managing Director of VetVise GmbH

BarnBuddy: 24/7 Attention for Poultry and Swine Farms

The BarnBuddy is a camera-based AI assistant for continuous barn monitoring. The technology analyzes activity, spatial distribution, and feeding behavior 24/7. Instead of providing snapshot impressions during routine barn walks, the system delivers a dynamic overview of the entire herd.

The AI detects anomalies in health, barn climate, or equipment up to 48 hours earlier than the human eye. An integrated generative AI assistant translates this behavioral data directly into clear, actionable recommendations. Farm staff can ask questions about the barn via an app or generate automated reports in up to 35 languages. The guiding principle: Management by Exception—staff are deployed precisely where action is required.

The analysis takes place directly on the local VetVise hardware inside the barn (Edge Computing). Sensitive video data stays on the farm, and core functions remain reliably available even without a continuous internet connection.

"Farmers know their animals best. Our technology isn't designed to replace that experience, but to enhance it. We give farm managers objective, 24-hour situational awareness that helps them make the right decisions faster."

— Johannes Schmidt-Mosig, Veterinarian & Managing Director of VetVise GmbH

When Animal Behavior Controls the Technology

How far this approach goes is demonstrated by the award-winning smart farrowing pen. Here, the VetVise AI analyzes sow and piglet behavior in real time—for instance, to signal an impending birth early on and automatically adjust WEDA's feeding technology.

The synergy is particularly striking when it comes to piglet nest climate control: The AI continuously monitors the huddling and resting behavior of the piglets. If the animals show signs of feeling too cold or too hot, the system passes this trigger directly to the WEDA control unit. Consequently, the nest heating no longer regulates itself solely based on fixed sensor values, but according to the actual needs of the animals. In practical application, this reduced flow temperatures by up to 6 °C—a win for both animal welfare and energy efficiency.

AI That Delivers Real Value in the Barn

With this triple win at EuroTier 2026, VetVise underscores its role as a key driver of the digital transformation in agriculture. The systems demonstrate how state-of-the-art AI technology seamlessly connects operational efficiency, resource management, and animal welfare.

About VetVise

VetVise develops AI-powered solutions for livestock behavioral analysis to sustainably improve animal welfare in agriculture and support farmers in making data-driven management decisions. To achieve this, VetVise utilizes a camera system that transforms the animal itself into the sensor. This enables animals across all housing systems to actively influence their own environment based on their actual behavior and needs.

About WEDA

For more than 90 years, the name of WEDA has been a byword for innovation and reliability. Found-
ed as an enterprise for the manufacturing of wood gas generators, WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp

GmbH with 150 members of staff at the Lutten head office, have meanwhile become a global mar-
ket leader in the domain of liquid feeding.

In its function as a full-range provider for modern pig management apart from feeding technology
and animal house equipment, WEDA also operates in the segments of ventilation technology, fish
and insects. The fish and insect feeding systems are based on the feeding technologies for pig
breeding.
WEDA has been developing and producing own technologies for weighing, crushing, pumping and
distributing liquid and dry feed since the 1970s, and even its computer programmes based on Linux
are self-developed and programmed. With its wide dealer network, the company is represented in
more than 50 countries.
